Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Participates in Traffic Safety Volunteer Work at Neungwon Elementary School and Receives Heartfelt Letters

Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special Status City visited Neungwon Elementary School in Mohyeon-eup, Cheoin-gu on the morning of the 17th to participate in a back-to-school safety campaign and traffic safety volunteer work.

Mayor Lee was joined by Kim Eun-hee, principal of Neungwon Elementary School, members of the Yongin East Green Mothers Association, and parent representatives from Neungwon Elementary School in the traffic guidance and campaign activities.

The mayor guided students to safely cross at crosswalks and drop-off zones before meeting with parents and school officials to discuss necessary support for creating safe routes to school and improving the educational environment.

At the event, students, parents, and school officials of Neungwon Elementary School expressed their gratitude to Mayor Lee Sang-il and city officials for their dedicated efforts in ensuring student safety and paying special attention to creating a drop-off zone in front of the school's main gate.

Additionally, students of Neungwon Elementary School presented hand-written letters and a poetry and art collection to Mayor Lee Sang-il, conveying their sincere appreciation.

The poetry and art collection created by students consists of poems and drawings reflecting students' impressions of their commuting environment, including themes such as "Safe School Commute," "More Convenient Paths," and "Our Safe School."

The hand-written letters from students expressed gratitude to Mayor Lee Sang-il for his dedication to creating a safe route to school.

Mayor Lee Sang-il said, "I received an unexpected and touching gift today at Neungwon Elementary School," and added, "As the mayor of Yongin Special Status City, I have done what I should do for city officials and students, and I will continue to create a safe educational environment for the students."

Lim Ha-yeon, a student at Neungwon Elementary School, expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thanks to Mayor Lee Sang-il, a drop-off zone was created in front of Neungwon Elementary School's main gate, and now students can commute more safely."

Before the drop-off zone was created, the road in front of Neungwon Elementary School's main gate was narrow and experienced traffic congestion when vehicles concentrated there, and students lacked adequate space to safely get in and out of vehicles.

Mayor Lee Sang-il heard a proposal to create a drop-off zone from parent representatives of elementary schools in the Cheoin-gu area during an informal meeting in September of last year and ordered city officials to swiftly seek solutions.

Additionally, in December of the same year, the mayor visited Neungwon Elementary School in person to survey the site and proposed a plan to create a drop-off zone by utilizing part of the school grounds.
