Superintendent An Min-seok Pursues Globalization of Korean Language Education through 'AP Korean'
The Gyeonggi Province Office of Education (Superintendent An Min-seok) held a strategic roadmap seminar on the 7th at the National Assembly Members' Hall to pursue the globalization of Korean language education and the introduction of 'AP Korean'.
AP (Advanced Placement) Korean is a program designed to meet the global demand for Korean language learning by allowing overseas students' achievements in Korean language study to be recognized in university admissions and academic processes.
The seminar was jointly hosted by the Gyeonggi Province Office of Education, National Assembly Member Kim Jun-hyuk, and the AP Korean Promotion Committee. Participants included Superintendent An Min-seok of Gyeonggi Province, the Ministry of Education, and domestic and international Korean language education experts and education officials.
The seminar began with a progress report by AP Korean Secretary-General So Byung-sun, followed by Professor Jang Tae-han presenting the necessity and direction of AP Korean introduction. In the subsequent expert discussion, a wide range of topics were discussed, including overseas demand for Korean language education, conditions for AP Korean introduction, curriculum development and learning infrastructure, and roles and cooperative systems among domestic and international institutions.
Participants notably recognized that the introduction of AP Korean establishes a foundation for Korean language learning achievements to be recognized within an international educational framework, and consensus was reached on the need for a phased implementation strategy and continuous domestic and international cooperation.
Superintendent An Min-seok of Gyeonggi Province stated, "The introduction of AP Korean is an urgent task that can no longer be delayed," and added, "Each educational stakeholder must work together to develop strategies," and "I will actively support the budget for the introduction of AP Korean."
