Multi-Lane HyPass at Uiwang Toll Gate on Seosuwon-Uiwang Expressway Opens September 17

Multi-lane HyPass has been installed at the Uiwang Toll Gate on the Seosuwon-Uiwang Expressway (Provincial Road 309), and pilot operations will begin on September 17 for two days.

The Seosuwon-Uiwang Expressway is a private-financed road managed by Gyeonggi Province, and installation work on the multi-lane HyPass system has been underway since April.

The pilot operation of the multi-lane HyPass at Uiwang Toll Gate will begin on September 17 from the Bundang direction, followed by the Seoul direction on September 18.

Multi-lane HyPass is a non-stop toll collection system where multiple HyPass-exclusive lanes are connected to create a wide passage like a main lane. Unlike the existing single-lane HyPass system, it eliminates the separation barriers and walls between two or more HyPass lanes to form one wide lane.

The Uiwang Toll Gate has multi-lane HyPass installed on two lanes each in the uphill and downhill directions, and the passage speed is improved from the existing 30km/h to 60km/h. The expected processing capacity increases from 1,100 vehicles per hour to 1,800 vehicles per hour, approximately 60% increase, enabling relief of bottleneck congestion and improved traffic flow.

Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Nambu Road Co., Ltd. have secured both driving stability and traffic flow by straightening lane geometry, reinforcing safety facilities, and repainting road signs and lanes.

Bae Sung-ho, Director of the Construction Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Through the construction of this multi-lane HyPass system, we expect to alleviate the recurring bottleneck phenomena and significantly improve vehicle traffic speed and driving safety."
