National Intangible Cultural Asset Tightrope Walking 50th Anniversary Performance on the 6th at Gwacheon Central Park

The '2026 Tightrope Walking Transmission Planning Performance: UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival, Daelyeong Gwangdae' commemorating the 50th anniversary of the National Intangible Cultural Asset designation of tightrope walking will be held at 3 p.m. on the 6th at the lawn plaza of Gwacheon Central Park.

The performance will feature Skill Holder Kim Dae-gyun and young tightrope walkers dreaming of becoming Daelyeong Gwangdae, along with tightrope walking successors, presenting a diverse array of traditional tightrope walking performances including traditional dance, eight-beat Taryeong, and Gutgeori dance, as well as female and male tightrope walker performances.

Special appearances will include members of the National Intangible Cultural Asset Iri Nongak Preservation Society. On the Pansori stage, Skill Holder Wang Ki-seok of Jeollabuk-do Intangible Cultural Asset Sugungga and an assistant Jeollabuk-do Intangible Cultural Asset Sugungga disciple will participate together. Additionally, National Intangible Cultural Asset Seodo Sori Skill Holder Lee Chun-mok and Transmission Educator Park Jun-gil will take the stage, adding depth and charm to traditional arts.

This performance is supported by Gwacheon City, the National Heritage Administration, and the National Heritage Promotion Institute. It is expected to be a meaningful occasion with holders and successors of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and National Intangible Cultural Assets gathering together to carry on the tradition. Through the dynamic feats and humorous witticisms displayed by young tightrope walkers, the performance is planned to promote the charm of traditional tightrope walking to citizens and provide an opportunity for cultural enjoyment where citizens tired from daily life can laugh and have fun together.

Gwacheon Mayor Shin Gye-yong said, "For the 50th anniversary of the tightrope walking designation, we have prepared a meaningful performance in Gwacheon, the hometown of tightrope walking, bringing together skill holders, successors, and young tightrope walkers."
