Samsung Hosts 'Play Galaxy Cup World Final' Competition on Galaxy Ultra Phones
Samsung Electronics held the '#PlayGalaxy Cup World Final' at its exhibition booth at 'gamescom 2026' held at Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany.
The '#PlayGalaxy Cup,' now in its sixth edition, is a global tournament where participants compete in mobile gaming skills using Galaxy smartphones. This year marked the first time the competition was conducted in a regular league format consisting of regional preliminaries and a world final.
Regional preliminaries were held across five regions from February: North America, Southwest Asia, Southeast Asia, Central and South America, and Europe. A total of 32 teams from 17 countries participated in the preliminaries, with the top two teams from each region, totaling 10 teams from 9 countries, advancing to the world final at gamescom.
The teams selected through regional preliminaries competed over two days, from the 27th through the 28th, on the world final stage for the championship title.
All players participating in the world final competed using Samsung Electronics' latest flagship smartphone, the 'Galaxy S26 Ultra.'
The 'Galaxy S26 Ultra' is equipped with a powerful processor and an optimized heat management system, providing a stable mobile gaming environment even during extended competitions.
The final match was broadcast live worldwide through global streamer Ludwig's YouTube channel, recording a cumulative viewership of 12.1 million.
A Galaxy experience zone was set up at the venue where visitors could directly experience the latest Galaxy products and mobile games.
Visitors were able to personally try the 'Galaxy S26 Ultra,' 'Galaxy Z Fold8,' and 'Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra,' and enjoy various popular games from gaming partners including HoYoverse, TiMi Studio, and Gameloft.
The championship was won by the Malaysian team (San Gaming, ADIKBOY, VRT1CAA, ACAD).
Moon Ki-wook, group head of Influencer Marketing Group at Samsung Electronics' MX Business Division, said, "This year, we expanded the '#PlayGalaxy Cup' into a regular league format for the first time, allowing gaming fans worldwide to enjoy the entire tournament process from regional preliminaries to the world final."
